Dudley Kingswinford 24 pts Luctonians 30 pts.
SKIPPER Jimmy Norris inspired Luctonians’ second-half transformation in their National League Two North derby success at Dudley Kingswinford.
Luctonians trailed 19-11 in the early stages of the restart but quick-fire tries from Norris, Will Burton and Paul Hulland helped sweep the visitors into a 30-19 lead.
“We played into the wind in the first half and, although we trailed 14-11 at the interval, we were quite happy with that,” said Norris.
“We knew that we could hit back in the second half and, although the final scoreline looks close, I felt it was comfortable. I felt we saw out the last 10 minutes quite well and that was very pleasing – away wins in this league are hard to come by.
“We’ve had many tight finishes but they are not good for the blood pressure of our coaches.”
Dudley took the lead in the sixth minute, prop Steve Blackburn powering over and Gareth Bown converting.
Two penalties from John Morris got Lucs on the scoreboard before winger Drew Cheshire dived over for their first try.
Dudley winger Liam Marshall scored the hosts’ second try, which Bown converted to give them a 14-11 interval advantage.
Dudley increased their lead to 19-11 when Jordan Brooks broke through and Matt Squires touched down.
But Luctonians turned the game on its head with tries from Norris, Burton and Hulland, two of which Morris converted.
Luctonians, who are fifth, took their foot off the gas for the remaining 20 minutes and the hosts’ Luke Greenwood scored the final try of the afternoon.
