Phil Glover sent off as Westfields suffer Midland Alliance home defeat by Quorn
2:30pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in Sport
Westfields 0 Quorn 1.
WESTFIELDS were beaten for the fifth consecutive home match and had Phil Glover sent off on a dismal afternoon at allpay.park.
Although keeper Matt Gwynne did well in the first period with fine saves from Dom Brennan and Lewis Dodd, Westfields also had their moments against one of the Midland Alliance title-favourites.
Dene Whittal-Williams had a header cleared off the line following a Craig Jones corner, Josh Hunt fired narrowly over and penalty appeals were waved away after Brad Birch appeared to be brought down.
Dodd hit the Westfields bar just before the interval and the visitors made the breakthrough the other side of the break.
Liam Turner found some space at the far post and beat Gwynne with an unchallenged header.
Matt Nurse pulled off a brilliant save to deny Glover before the substitute was dismissed following an off-the-ball incident with the Quorn skipper.
Westfields pushed up in the closing stages but were unable to find a way through the well-organised Quorn defence.
