A LEOMINSTER motorcyle rider has been picked by the ACU (Auto Cycle Union) to take part in the final round of the European Enduro Championship in Portugal later this month.
Seventeen-year-old Katie Walker has marked herself down as a star of the future by winning the 2013 British Ladies Enduro Championship in her first year in the adult section.
Enduro riders compete for up to six or seven hours per day, non-stop, over challenging forest and moorland tracks.
Riders have to maintain their bikes by themselves during these events with no outside assistance.
The British Enduro Championship has rounds in Scotland, Yorkshire, Wales, East Anglia and Hampshire but Walker will now be venturing further afield for the European three-day event where she will team up with two other top female UK enduro riders, Rhian George and Ffion Griffiths.
Despite her youth, Walker has already had a very successful career in the sport, taking several British Championship honours in past youth Hare ‘n Hound series.
She has received support from Rhayader motorcycle dealership ET James throughout her career and has been part of their very successful Enduro team this year, along with five male riders.
