Influential Tom Bevan leaves Wormelow Cricket Club who play in Worcestershire County League Division Two
TOM Bevan has revealed he is leaving Wormelow Cricket Club next week after six memorable years.
The 24-year-old has been a driving force on-and-off-the-field at Kennel Field and is standing down from his roles at the club’s annual meeting on Monday.
Bevan has a wealth of roles at Wormelow, including fixtures secretary, junior co-ordinator, bar manager, sponsorship, friendlies captain, tour co-ordinator and kit manager.
He has just bought a house in Cardiff with girlfriend Laura Pyatt and will continue to work in Hereford five days a week.
“Wormelow will always be my club and I am sure I will back when the time is right,” said Bevan, the club’s first-team wicketkeeper.
“Since re-joining the club in 2007, I have enjoyed six great years. I doubt there are many other individuals in the area of my age that are as involved in a club.
“The suggestion has been made to play just at home next season but I want to have a proper season of league cricket or not play at all.
“I will always want Wormelow to be at its best and I cannot just coach and play on a Saturday for the club and that be my only involvement.”
Bevan said he would like to remain as a non-playing social member of Wormelow and will continue to sponsor the club.
He said: “I have not moved to another club. But there is the possibility that I may decide to play the game for another club next year with no other ties. I would like to retain a social involvement with the club because of all the great friends I have made at Wormelow.”
l Wormelow’s annual general meeting takes place at Kennel Field on Monday (September 30), starting at 7pm.
