Midland Alliance success for under-strength Westfields at Rocester
12:30pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Sport
WESTFIELDS shrugged off the absence of four key players to notch their second successive away win, 2-1 at Rocester.
Twin strikers Aidan Thomas and Jamie Cuss were absent, as were central defenders Phil Glover and Scott Jackson but Fields made a strong start and took the lead after 15 minutes.
Zac Sirrell sent Brad Birch away to cross for Carl Morgan to head in at the near post.
Craig Jones went close to a second shortly afterwards following good work by Birch and Josh Hunt.
With Dene Whittal-Williams and Bobby Aldrich looking solid at the heart of the defence and Matt Gwynne pulling off a couple of good saves, Westfields held their lead.
And the city side went further ahead 12 minutes from time when Birch shot home after a fine pass by Jones.
The former Hereford midfielder went close to a third but Aaron Dillon pulled a goal back for Rocester in the final minute with a low drive.
