Hereford sailor Charlotte Annet finishes fifth in Welsh Youth Regatta at Llangorse

HOME sailors turned out in force to support the 2013 Acorn Llangorse Welsh Youth Regatta.
The event attracted 84 boats from clubs across South Wales, whose crews ranged from a seven-year-old girl competitor through to 16-year-olds.
The increase in Llangorse Club sailors taking part was partly due to the efforts by Will Willet and Nigel Taylor to establish a Youth Academy within the club to encourage more youngsters to take up sailing and train them in the skills required to sail confidently.
Max Farmer, having moved up to the more competitive Gold Topper fleet, repeated his success in the 2012 event by coming first overall, with a first in his first race of the two days of competition, two second places, two thirds and a fifth.
His performance won him the Blackham trophy, which is awarded for the best overall performance by a Llangorse Sailing Club member, for the second year in a row.
Charlotte Annet, who narrowly missed out winning the top Topper place in 2012, did well in finishing in fifth place after some tremendous battles with the top end of the strong Topper Gold fleet.
A relative newcomer to sailing, Llangorse member Tamara Herbert came a creditable third in the Topper Silver fleet.
Guy Farmer gained second spot in the Optimist Silver fleet, with fellow academy member Ben Willet coming fourth.
Claire Ellis, the Commodore of the Llangorse Club presented the prizes.
