Four golds for Hereford Combat Academy karate team

HEREFORD’S Combat Academy karate team have picked up six medals, including four golds at the English Contact Karate Association’s (ECKA) Semi Contact National Championships.
As well as indivicual success, the Academy also collected the children’s team national title.
Ryan Hill, in the children’s Purple - Black Belt +5’4, Tyler Furnell, in the children's Purple to Black Belt -5'4, Jurijs Kudrjavcevs, in the Purple - Black Belt -5’0, and Paul Lewis in the Over 38 years Red - Orange Belt, were all crowned national champions after taking gold.
Ryan, Tyler and Jurijs competed together in the Children’s Team event and defeated a squad from Bicester before beating the former National Champions from Coventry.
Academy assistant coach Emma Baker won silver in the ladies’ over-58Kg Purple - Black Belt competition while Josh Small, in the Boys & Girls -4’4 open grade, took a hard-earned bronze after a semi-final defeat.
Other members of the team were Aimee Higgs, who finised in fourth place, Josh McMillan and Ben Lewis.
The Combat Academy/Hereford ECKA were placed third overall in the team standings behind Coventry and Kingsthorpe.
Academy assistant coach Patrick Baker was awarded his ECKA Class ‘C’ referee certificate after meeting the required standard and acquiring the relevant experience.
New members are also welcome at the Combat Academy’s new, much larger purpose-designed training facility, with matted floor space, kick bags and a whole host of other facilities 24 Foley Trading Estate, Hereford.
