Lads Club win Herefordshire West Midlands League Division One derby at Bartestree

GOALS from Ben Fuller and Steve Dixon led Hereford Lads Club to a 2-0 derby triumph at Bartestree in West Midlands League Division One.
Lads Club spokesman Richard Jones felt his side to deserved to take the plaudits despite Dan Taylor making a fine early save from Bartestree’s Gareth Bowley.
Lads Club broke the deadlock after 35 minutes when Fuller fired into the net after Bobby Terrett’s cross.
The city outfit made the points safe when hard-working Dixon raced on to Ben Chambers’ cross-field pass and calmly slotted the ball home.
Chambers had previously rattled the bar and Dixon’s shot had been tipped wide by Rauri Wargent. Former Lads Club player Kiea Cowley, now with Bartestree, sent a lob wide of the target.
Dan Herbert’s hat-trick inspired Ledbury Town to a 5-2 home win over basement-boys Hanwood United, also in Division One. Town trailed twice in the match at New Street which exploded with seven second-half goals.
Ledbury fell 1-0 behind after 50 minutes before Herbert hauled the hosts level.
Hanwood regained the lead but Jamie Welch hit back to equalise for Ledbury, who suddenly took control.
Herbert fired Ledbury 3-2 ahead after seizing upon Welch’s deflected effort and Martin Loveridge rounded off a superb move involving Tom Boyle and Neil Gardiner. Herbert sealed Ledbury’s success - and completed his treble - in the 84th minute.
l HEREFORDSHIRE can still boast three teams in the top seven of the West Midlands League Premier Division after an unbeaten weekend for the trio of county sides.
Pegasus Juniors continue to lead the way after their 8-0 win over Ellesmere Rangers, see sport 8 and 9, but Wellington and Bromyard Town are still up with the pacemakers.
After a disastrous 8-1 home defeat to second-placed Black Country Rangers on the season’s opening day, Bromyard have won their last four matches to sit in third place, level on points with Pegasus Juniors.
Their latest success came at Bartley Green where they were 4-3 winners thanks to a hat-trick from Richard Burgess and a strike from Daniel Horton.
Wellington bounced back from their 8-0 home mauling by Pegasus by collecting a useful away point.
The villagers travelled to eighth-placed Shifnal and returned with a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Saul Thomas and Dean Price.
