Westside in fifth place in West Midlands Netball League Division Two after Yendys loss

DESPITE a hard-working performance, Westside were beaten 50-40 by Yendys to remain in fifth position in the West Midlands League Division Two.

With Kerry Amos back from a maternity break, Westside started with Ellie Smith GS, Kerry Amos GA, Stacey Barker WA, Sophie Wright C, Kayleigh Mumford WD, Aimee Phillips GD and Steph Snowzell GK.

Westside got off to a strong start with some early turnovers in the defensive circle as Phillips and Snowzell worked well to deny the Yendys shooters any space.

Amos and Smith's movement around the circle enabled them good shooting chances and Westside led 10-7 at quarter-time.

Yendys put pressure on the Westside attack in the second quarter, forcing minor errors and, despite tight marking from player-of-the-match Mumford denying their attack space, Yendys led 23-20 at half-time.

Kate Pierce came on to WD, Mumford moved to WA and Amos and Smith switched for the third quarter but Westside still struggled although they remained within five points at three-quarter time.

One small change saw Snowzell and Phillips swap in a bid to stop the drives on the Yendys GA and apply even more pressure to their shooter.

Despite this, the Yendys shooters again did not miss a single shot and the Midlanders grabbed a win by 10 points.
