Teen ace Dan Sewell shoots Leominster Town to success at Bridgnorth

Bridgnorth Town Res 1 Leominster Town 4.

SEVENTEEN-year-old Dan Sewell stepped up to first-team action to score the goal that put Town out of reach.

The latest of Town’s talented teens came on as a second-half substitute, and it was his strike that ensured the Briarwood Boys took all three vital points against fellow West Midlands League Division One strugglers Bridgnorth.

An own goal got Town off the mark, two more from Sam Pearson and Sam Thomas seemed to have the game secure by half-time until Bridgnorth pulled one back with seconds to go.

Town seemed to lose their way after the re-start as Bridgnorth began forcing the play, until Sewell struck leaving them with too much to do.

Using every opportunity to take the weight off the ball and work a boggy pitch with short passes, Town got their grip on the game back and – after the disappointment of a tight league defeat to Wombourne in mid-week – weren’t going to let it go.

While Sewell got on the score sheet, fellow teens Dan Sharp and Hugo Benson also impressed for their side.

Town face a tough test of their new-found form on Saturday when high-flying, free-scoring Haughmond come to Briarwood.
