Long Run or The Giant Bolster for Cheltenham Gold Cup at Cheltenham Festival, says Herefordshire's eight-time champion jockey Peter Scudamore

RACING fan Richard Binnersley will have his work cut out to beat his 17 winners at last year’s Cheltenham Festival.

The ex-Luctonians cricketer is backing Peddlers Cross tomorrow (Thursday) in the World Hurdle and Rolling Star in Friday’s Triumph Hurdle.

“There are five of us who go each year to Cheltenham and we are staying in Ledbury this time,” said Richard, from Brightwells.

“Our big tip for the week is Rolling Star in the Triumph Hurdle.

“It seems to be able to run on the ground - the condition of the ground is the big factor this year.

“I picked 17 winners last year and I don’t think it can beaten by us.”

Peter Scudamore, the eight-time champion jockey, thinks Long Run and The Giant Bolster were the forces to be reckoned with in the Gold Cup.

“The Giant Bolster is an extraordinary good bet at the price he's at and he's got Long Run to beat,” said Scu, who works with partner Lucinda Russell as the assistant trainer.

Herefordshire trainer Thomas Symonds says Long Run will be in top three.

He also fancies Cape Tribulation Scudamore had a lot of praise for Herefordshire trainer Venetia Williams.

“Venetia’s having her best-ever season and she will now have to get a winner at Cheltenham - but that’s not easy to do,” he said.

“You could do a lot worse than back Venetia all the way through the meeting in handicaps.”
