Builth and District athlete Mike Pfeiffer wins Hereford's Muddy Woody Race

ATHLETES from outside the county took the first three places at the 17th running of Wye Valley Runners’ Muddy Woody 6 around the woodland trails of Haugh Wood.

Builth and District Runners Mike Pfeiffer and Tim Iveson were the first two home in 45.04 minutes and 45.27 respectively.

David Wilby of Ilkley Harriers put in a strong performance to finish in third position over the 6.5-mile course .

Jessica Barling of Lordshill Runners won the female race in a time of 53.31 closely followed by Kathryn King of Wye Valley Runners . Nikki Morgan (Chepstow Harriers) was third.

A total of 247 of the 272 starters completed the course in under 90 mins.

The men’s team award went to the Monross Trail Blazers squad of Stephen Andrews, Richard Bevan and Phil Thomas while Wye Valley Runners’ Kathryn King, Laura Tootell and Rebecca Davies took the women’s award.

The Jim Gray Cup was awarded to Wye Valley’s Greg Wood and was presented by Jim’s son Alan .

Wye Valley Runners allocated £2 of each race entry to Hereford Haven Breast Cancer and an additional £127 was raised at the event.

“Wye Valley Runners wish to thank all the runners for continuing to support this event, the race sponsors, the many marshals and helpers whose hard work makes this race possible,” said club spokesman Mike Shaw.

“And especially the local residents for their co-operation and assistance.”
