ENGLAND coach Alan Keast says he can’t wait for next month’s international amateur boxing show in Hereford.

Keast is managing an England select team against Wales in a battle for the Hereford Times Cup.

Herefordshire’s best boxers will be representing the England team at Hereford Sixth Form College on Saturday, March 16.

Wye Police Amateur Boxing Club’s fourth international show will raise money for Combat Stress.

Keast said: “Most weekends during the boxing season there are club shows on a Friday and Saturday night giving boxers the opportunity to compete in amateur boxing.

“Hereford is special - you have a club that puts on an international show which has the glitz and excitement better than a lot of pro shows.

“Not only is there competition by the boxers to get on to the show, even the officials want to be part of it.

“Wye Police have set the level on what a boxing show should achieve.”

Combat Stress is the forces’ charity which looks after British troops suffering from mental health problems.

One of Wye’s boxers, Liam Craig, the former Wellington footballer, is a local community visitor for Combat Stress.

Wye Police chairman Richard Roberts said: “We are trying to raise money for gym equipment for the rehabilitation centre that all our local lads attend.

“It’s something we all are aware of at the club, and want to help with, especially as Liam is the local community visitor for Combat Stress.

“We are delighted that our show has become one of the highlights in the amateur boxing timetable.”

The show includes boxing, a meal and auction. For tickets, call 07798 755715.
