MOUNTAINBOARD ace James Wanklyn says he can’t wait to compete in Herefordshire later this year, writes Chris Plant.

James had a golden summer in 2012, romping to the Mountainboard World Boardercross title in Serbia.

And the 21-year-old from Herefordshire is now setting his sights on conquering the slopes in ATBA-UK UK Series 2013.

“Leading up to the European final last year, I won every race which gave me confidence,” recalled James. “I won the final by 20 or 30 yards, but I was scared.

“At the time, it was only European, but they have now bumped it up to the world championships.

“With riders from Brazil, USA and possibly the UK there is more competition, but I think I have a fairly good chance.”

James is hoping to return to Serbia in September to retain his World crown.

And, on the domestic front, James is planning to race in the seven-round UK Series.

Ironsides Mountain Board Centre in Tillington will be hosting the fourth round on July 13 and 14.

He added: “I can’t wait to come back to Herefordshire - it gives me an advantage.

“I know the Ironsides course like the back of my hand.”
