PEGASUS Juniors have secured the backing of Hereford United in their bid to land the big £100,000 top prize in the FA’s Budweiser Futures competition.

To gain the six-figure sum, in addition to the £50,000 they have already landed, they need to top a poll involving the other seven £50k-winning clubs.

On Saturday morning, there will be a chance to vote for Pegasus when the club man a stall in Hereford’s High Town.

Anyone voting will be given a voucher which will entitle them to attend Hereford United’s Blue Square Bet Premier clash with Lincoln City that afternoon for just £2, or £5 for a seat in the stand.

“We are really pleased to support the Pegasus bid,” said Bulls chairman David Keyte.

“We like to think we can support all of our local clubs in whatever way we can and we hope that the reduced prices will offer a good incentive for as many Hereford supporters as possible to add their backing.”

Meanwhile, Pegasus continued to make good progress in the West Midlands League Premier Division with a 2-1 win over Cradley Town.

Juniors opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Tom Dawson sent Paul Allam away to pull the back to Chris Mortlock who fired into the roof of the net from six yards.

The home side extended their lead late in the first period when Sam Hunt scored from the edge of the area following an Adam Newbury corner.

Cradley pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute through William Tibbets but man-of-the-match Andy Mowen marshalled his defence superbly to deny any further chances.

DESPITE fighting back twice to level, Wellington suffered their first home defeat of the year against their Shropshire rivals.

“A draw would probably have been a fair result,” said Wellington chairman Phil Smith. “We played well and it was disappointing not to get something out of the game.”

The visitors dominated the first phase and took an early lead before Saul Thomas levelled the scores. Shifnal regained the lead but the home side once again fought back with a goal from Gareth George.

But Shifnal went ahead once again just after the interval and although Wellington dominated play for the remainder of the half, they were unable to claw back to gain a point.

“We are holding our own at the moment but we are a mid-table side and have to accept that,” said Smith. “We have plans to improve that but, realistically, it will probably not be until next season.”
