Leicester Lions 34 pts Luctonians 24.

LUCTONIANS staged a brave rally from 24-0 adrift after 30 minutes in this National Two North clash.

But their revival was not enough to bring anything other than a solitary bonus point against a side who had three players yellow-carded as the Herefordshire side’s pressure told.

It was Luctonians, who had impressed in the early stages, who were the first to suffer with a sin-binning as Brett Prior was dismissed.

His absence was felt as Lions got the first points on the board with a close-range unconverted try from Jack Griffiths.

Lions, who were out to avenge a 31-8 reverse at Mortimer Park earlier in the season, wasted no time in building on their success.

In a 12-minute spell, they crossed for three tries with full-back Jamie Stokes bagging two and wing-forward Tom Morris the other.

Two successful conversions from John Boden took the margin to 24 points.

But with Morris sin-binned, Luctonians began their fight-back.

Anthony Marfell was driven over for a try but, initially, they failed to cut the margin further although Matthew Soloman had joined his team-mate in the sin-bin.

Shortly after the interval, Drew Cheshire raced in under the posts for a try converted by John Morris who also added the extras following a second Marfell try.

In between the two tries, Boden extended the lead with a successful penalty and he was also on target with a conversion when Rhyn Jones went over for the fifth home try of the afternoon.

An interception try by Alex Rumsey kept Luctonians in contention but their were unable to get any closer to the hosts who also lost Boden to a yellow card two minutes from the end. On Saturday, Luctonians will be seeking their second double of the season when they make the short trip to Bromsgrove (3pm kick-off).
