HEREFORD Lads Club will be playing their first-team home matches at the County Ground for the rest of the season.

Danny Moon’s side switched their games to Hereford Leisure Centre after West Midlands League officials said the length of the County Ground pitch was too short.

Moon said the pitch at the new £6million stadium in which league rivals Riverway play, had also failed to measure up to league requirements.

“The pitch at Hereford Leisure Centre was flooded again on Saturday and the league agreed we could use the County Ground for the rest of the season,” said Moon.

“There has been a lot of standing water on the leisure centre pitch and we have to accept that we need to expand our own pitch at the end of the season.

“We must take out the trees at the County Ground and that, hopefully, will be done before the end of this month.”

Moon added: “The league came down and did an inspection at our ground and found that our pitch was only just too short.”

Last summer, West Midlands League spokesman Neil Juggins said clubs’ pitches in the West Midlands League must be a minimum of 100 metres by 64 metres.

Hereford Lads Club 4 Mahal Res 3.

UNBEATEN Lads Club failed to build on a dominant first-half display and put themselves under pressure as the visitors staged a strong fight-back.

The city side, however, are now up to fifth in the West Midlands League Division Two table with at least three games in hand over all of the sides above them.

Lads Club made a great start on their return to the County Ground with Josh Pugh scoring from Jordan Burke’s cross after only 10 minutes.

A Danny Moon free-kick set up Pugh for his second 10 minutes later.

A Moon cross eluded the keeper’s grasp for Kiea Cowley to thump in the third but Lads Club missed a number of good chances to increase their lead before Steve Dixon added the fourth before the interval.

Lads Club lost Liam Jones with a hamstring injury at the break and Mahal profited from the defensive reshuffle to score twice.

The hosts continued, however, to have the better of play but with Mahal pulling a further goal back, Lads Club had to endure some nervous moments before their victory was confirmed.
