HEREFORD United fans have a chance to ensure that the club’s most famous victory tops a poll of famous giantkillings.

TV channel ESPN, in conjunction with FA Cup sponsor Budweiser, has launched a vote to find out which of five famous matches is the favourite giantkilling for fans throughout the country.

And Hereford’s famous win over Newcastle United in 1972 is on the short list.

Bulls fans will not take much persuading that the celebrated victory, featuring Ronnie Radford’s legendary long-range strike and Ricky George’s extra-time winner, is the best result ever by an underdog.

But there is plenty of tough opposition for Colin Addison’s legendary side to overcome.

Colchester United’s celebrated 3-2 success over Don Revie’s great Leeds United side in 1970-1 is also among the five as is Bournemouth’s 2-0 win over Manchester United in 1983-4 when Harry Redknapp was cutting his managerial teeth at Dean Court.

Wrexham’s win over Arsenal in 1991-2, which featured a spectacular free-kick by Mickey Thomas, is on the list, as is Sutton United’s success against Coventry City, who had won the trophy only two seasons previously.

ESPN will be running a series of polls to coincide with each round of the cup and United must have a chance of figuring in the fourth-round vote, which is set to feature the greatest FA Cup goals.
