A STAR-studded side of famous cricketing names will be coming to Aston Ingham this summer.

The villagers are hosting a Lashings World XI on Sunday, June 23 with plenty of top names guaranteed to be on view at Stockings Field.

Lashings are currently captained by former England all-rounder Phil DeFreitas and the squad includes, Ian Harvey, Chris Harris, Devon Malcolm, John Emburey, Mark Ramprakash and Ian Butler.

The list of past Lashings alumni also includes Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge, Sachin Tendulkar and Curtley Ambrose so there are sure to be a host of stars in action.

“It is hoped all members, past and present, together with all friends of the club, will support this fantastic event,” said organiser Colin Leighton.

“The event will be raising funds for the club, and other local organisations.”

There will be a pre-match corporate lunch from midday, hosted by the Lashings players in a marquee on the boundary.

Tickets for the lunch cost £50 or £60, or £500/£600 for a table of 10, with the more expensive prices for a place on a table hosted by a Lashings player. As well as a three-course sit-down meal, the lunch will include welcome drinks, a charity auction, and singing from former Zimbabwean Test cricketer Henry Olonga, who is now an opera singer.

Tickets to watch the 35-overs-a-side match will be available, in advance, at £4 for adults, children £2, or on the gate, at £5 and £3, respectively.

When the match finishes at 7pm, there will be a live band, Otis Mack and The Tubby Bluesters, playing, in the marquee.

“This is a very large undertaking, but everyone at the club is behind the idea,” said Leighton. “We hope the weather will be kind, and everyone will have a memorable day.

“With Shane Warne's move into Donnington Hall, near Dymock, maybe we can persuade him to guest for us!”
