Luctonians look for improvement in their National Two North form

LUCTONIANS spokesman Simon Green-Price says Saturday’s home match against Hull is a chance to ‘get the show back on the road’.

Alex Davidson’s men have had a poor run, winning just one of their last eight matches in National League Two North.

Ninth-placed Luctonians crashed 21-12 at home to relegation-threatened Huddersfield in their last outing.

But the Mortimer Park fans will be hoping the Herefordshire side can start their 2013 league programme with a flourish.

“It’s a big game for us, with Hull just one place below in the table,” said Green-Price. “But it’s even bigger now, especially with the run we had before Christmas.

“We need to get a win. It’s a chance to get the show back on the road and to get some confidence back for the players.”

Luctonians have lost six of their last eight matches but recorded a 26-23 win at Hull in a hard-fought encounter in September.

Davidson says Brett Prior will be playing at fly-half this weekend with John Morris continuing at 13 and taking on the kicking duties.

He said that Charlie Bennett had returned to training after a leg injury and would be battling with Ollie Williams and Dan Phillips for the scrum-half jersey.

Davidson added: “Will Burton has just come back from a skiing trip and he will be training this week.”

Luctonians’ away league match at Bromsgrove has been re-arranged for February 9.

Hereford Rugby Club travel to Stoke this Saturday in Midlands One West. Hereford’s Wyeside pitch has been underwater this week but club officials hope it will be fit for Walsall’s visit on January 12.

House and grounds manager Di Hickinbotham said: “The pitch has been underwater up to the height of the advertising boards and there was no access to the ground on Sunday.

“But the water can drain very quickly. We need the rain to stop and the wind to dry up the water.”
