THE Royal Marines have hit Hereford with a knock-out session at Wye Police Amateur Boxing Club.

The club’s boxers had a chance to take part in the Marines’ fitness test to see if they could work at their high standard. Alan Keast, the advanced England coach, who has trained numerous champions including Amir Khan and David Haye, praised the club for their drive and enthusiasm working with the whole of the community at Hinton Community Centre. “The club has a fantastic reputation of producing well schooled and conditioned boxers,” he said.

“Del Strachan and his team of coaches work hard to give all people at the gym an opportunity to compete, or just take part in our sport.”

Hereford boxers Lee Jenkins and Bradley Meek continue to perform well this season producing notable wins in this season’s boxing shows. “Wye Police are in an enviable position to put on our March 16 charity show for Combat Stress, which is now one of the highlights of the calendar for the boxing crowd,” said club secretary Vince McNally.

“We will again be seeing some of the best boxers in the county putting on their England vest to compete for the coveted Hereford Times Cup,”
