SASCHA and Nyree Kindred are returning to competitive action this weekend after swimming with dolphins in the USA.

The Hereford couple and their daughter Ella also rubbed shoulders with killer whales and sea lions after visiting Florida with Dreamflight.

The Kindreds were special guests and joined a group of 192 Dreamflight children on the latest trip.

The charity gives disabled children a holiday of a lifetime.

Nyree was on the first Dreamflight trip 25 years ago.

Nyree said: “I was only seven or eight when I went on Dreamflight but I still remember how exciting it was.

“I’d never been with many disabled children and it showed me that disability does not matter.”

Nyree and Sascha are back in training after winning silver medals at the London Paralympics.

They have set their sights on representing Great Britain at the IPC Swimming World Championships in Canada next August.

And the couple will be competing in Disability Sports Events National Shortcourse Swimming Championships in Sheffield this weekend.

“We will take a year at a time but we are not committing to another Paralympics,” said Sascha.

“You can never say never but I can’t see us doing Rio at the moment.

“The World Championships will be taking place in Montreal and that’s our focus.”

Sascha and Nyree are defending champions after winning titles at the World Championships in Eindhoven, Holland, in 2010.

“The World Championships are usually two years after the Paralympics but this time it’s one year,” said Sascha.

“If our times had not improved at London 2012, we would not have been continuing with our swimming. But we showed we can get faster.”

Sascha will be swimming in the 200m individual medley and Nyree, the 100m backstroke in Sheffield. He says London 2012 is still fresh in their minds.

“A lot of Paralympians and Olympians seem to have had post-games depression but we have not had time to be depressed because we’ve got Ella,”

he said. “We had seven weeks off after the Paralympics and going back to training was a shock.”

He added: “We are not expecting anything this weekend - it’s compulsory for us to be there and we’ll also be meeting British Swimming.”
