Westfields 1 Stratford Town 2.

WESTFIELDS failed to halt unbeaten Midland Alliance leaders Stratford Town’s run but were left to rue two controversial penalty decisions, neither of which were awarded.

Westfields, who have won only two of their eight home matches, made a strong start with Anthony Robbins and Richard Kear going close from good positions inside the first couple of minutes.

But then good saves by Westfields’ keeper Jamie Moore from Anthony Robinson and by Brendan Hazlett from Kear at the other end ensured the first period ended goalless.

Hazlett denied Aidan Thomas and Kear before the first penalty decision - when a Stratford defender appeared to handle a Thomas cross - went against the home side.

Shortly afterwards, substitute Jamie Bailey headed Stratford in front and then Robinson followed up to score a second after Moore had brilliantly saved his first effort.

Fields again had penalty appeals waved aside when Kear seemed to be fouled but Thomas ensured a thrilling finish when he scored with a fine left-foot shot.

Westfields pushed forward strongly in the final 10 minutes but were unable to grab the equaliser which, on balance of play, they deserved.

Ettingshall Park Farm 1 Bartestree 4.

BARTESTREE have moved up to second place in Division Two of the West Midlands League after taking their unbeaten run to seven games.

The visitors had a let-off when a shot came back off the bar in the early stages but then wasted a chance to go ahead themselves with Mark Langford failing from the penalty spot after Nathan Collins had been brought down.

Bartestree had to wait until two minutes before the break to go in front when Ryan Tabb scored with a fine shot.

Five minutes into the second period, an own goal extended the lead but Ettingshall pulled one back when the referee overruled a linesman’s offside flag to allow a goal.

Langford made amends for his penalty miss on the hour and Bartestree rounded off another excellent afternoon when substitute Jake Atkinson drilled a shot into the top corner of the net from 20 yards.
