A PENALTY from Dave Bromage secured Greyhound’s place in the quarter-finals of the Midlands Junior Vase after a close-run clash with their Birmingham rivals.

John Roberts raced down the wing to open the scoring with a try and this was followed by a second unconverted try from Rob Chance. A Harborne converted try cut the deficit to three points at the interval and the visitors took the lead in the second-half with a second converted score.

Bromage kicked a penalty to reduce the margin to a single point before Harborne extended their lead again with an unconverted score.

But Greyhound finished strongly and, after Chance had gone over for his second unconverted try, Bromage sealed the win with a second successful kick.

l Ross 2nd were beaten 12-0 at home by Upton-upon-Severn 2nd in a Herefordshire and Worcestershire Merit League clash where Matt Redman was named man-of-the-match.

l HEREFORD Cathedral School had to battle hard to make progress in the Daily Mail Cup before beating Hereford Sixth Form College 29-17.

Sixth Form took an early lead with a converted try but Will Ford converted his own try with Henry Mason crossing to give Cathedral a narrow interval lead.James Phillips and Ford scored again in the second-half with Ford again converting his own try beore Sixth Form reduced arrears with a try. Replacement Will Rodgers completed the scoring for Cathedral before Sixth Form scored a last-minute consolation try.
