WELL the summer had to end eventually.

It wasn’t the best we’ve ever had but it certainly wasn’t the worst.

Now the season is very definitely on the turn and we’re heading for that time of ‘mists and mellow fruitfulness’, longer nights and cooler days.

But Herefordshire is a beautiful county all year round and there’s no better way to warm yourself up than with a hot toddy from Ledbury’s own Pixley Berries, who’ve provided us with a few great recipes.

Alternatively a dip in a whirlpool spa bath is a wonderful way to raise those temperatures. I was pampered to the hilt when I spent a day at Holme Lacy’s spa and I wasn’t the only one as we visited the county leisure clubs and spas to give you an idea of where to go if you want to give yourself some ‘me’ time.

It’s great to chill out but some people just love the high life not least our daring pilot Nick Wakefield who explains his love for the wide blue yonder and why he likes to test his acrobatic skills in international competition flying. A really magnificent man in his flying machine.

Meanwhile we reflect the caring side of county people as well – Lucy Hervey-Bathurst and Domenica Dunne explain why they’re backing a charity which will be bringing a new form of support to anyone in the county affected by cancer, while Dr Simon Madge details why Hereford Hospital’s eye unit needs your help in helping it replace a vital monitoring machine.

And that’s just the start of our latest jampacked issue, not to mention the usual fashion, gardening and motoring features.

The nights may be longer, but settle down with us and they’ll soon whizz by!
