HEREFORDSHIRE’S Paralympian gold-medallist Sascha Kindred had a night to remember at the 2008 BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.
The swimmer joined other Olympic and Paralympic stars on the podium for a Parade of Champions at last Sunday’s ceremony in Liverpool.
Kindred also got to meet his Question of Sport hero, former England rugby union scrum-half Matt Dawson.
“The BBC awards were awesome,” said Kindred’s partner, Nyree Lewis, who won a silver medal in Beijing and was among the audience.
“We had a great time meeting and greeting all the sports stars of Great Britain. Sascha very much enjoyed going on stage for the Olympic and Paralympic Parade of Champions,” she said.
In Beijing, Kindred struck gold for Great Britain, for the third successive Games, in the 200-metre individual medley and the men’s 100-metre breaststroke.
Lewis, who is also a Paralympic swimmer, clinched a silver medal in the women’s 100-metre backstroke.
She added: “We managed to meet a lot of stars, including father-and-son, Enzo and Joe Calzaghe, Chris Hoy, the Wales rugby union squad and Ben Ainslie.”
