Man dies in collision

A BREDWARDINE man died in a head-on collision between two vehicles near Hay-on-Wye on Saturday afternoon.

Lee Richard Stevenson died at the scene after his blue Peugeot 306 was in collision with a gold Land Rover Discovery at 1.40pm on the B4348 at Cusop on December 22.

The 26-year-old was a former pupil of Gwernyfed High School near Glasbury and grew up in Hay-on-Wye.

The Land Rover driver suffered minor injuries after both vehicles sustained front end damage.

Dr David Houston from the voluntary Mercia Accident Rescue Service assisted ambulance crew after becoming aware of the collision as he shopped with family in Hay-on-Wye.

He said Mr Stevenson suffered fatal injuries after being ejected from his car and attempts to rescuscitate him were unsuccessful.

He added: "This was a shocking road traffic collision and a tragic loss of life, particularily at this time of year.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the young man who died."

Peterchurch watch manager Denbygh Hill confirmed fire crews also attended to make the vehicles safe following the collision.

Police are appealing for witnesses and to anyone who saw the vehicles on the road beforehand.
