Fromes Hill villagers driving force behind cutting speed on A4103

VILLAGERS have been the driving force behind a new way to cut speeding on the A4103 at Fromes Hill.

New measures to reduce speed have been introduced because the concerns of the local community about the road’s safety have been backed up by its accident record.

The stretch of road has been officially designated as a “community concern site” by the Safer Roads Partnership.

This means there is now a speed enforcement of 40mph that will be in operation for six months and efforts are being stepped up to encourage drivers to slow down.

“It is an extremely fast stretch of road where we try to encourage drivers to slow down via other methods such as speed indicator devices,” said Councillor Brian Wilcox, cabinet member for highways and transportation.

Councillor Patricia Morgan, from Fromes Hill, said: “Local residents are extremely concerned about the speed of vehicles travelling through their village.

“The issue was raised at the last parish council meeting and I am delighted that action is being taken to address this issue, which directly affects the quality of life of people living here.”

Rod Reynolds, head of the Safer Roads Partnership, said further speed enforcement would be assessed after six months.
