A DRUG driver was caught at almost 15 times over the limit.

Ashley Lye, aged 21, admitted driving in Hampton Road, Droitwich at 2pm on Friday, July 28 while he was working for a local garage.

Lye was stopped by police believing that he was driving with no insurance.

He was not charged with any insurance issues, but police tested him for drug driving.

He measured 741 ug/l of Benzoylecgonine, the main compound of cocaine, at Droitwich Police Station with the legal limit being 50.

Lye said that he believed the drugs were in his system from "a few days before."

Harry Turner, chairman of the magistrates bench said: "You could easily have been here on a very different charge.

"You could have hurt someone or even worse killed someone."

Lye, from Wesley Avenue in Stourport, said he was now fearing for his job.

He was disqualified from driving for two years, fined £100 and told to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £135 which his mother agreed to pay off for him in one lump sum.

He appeared in Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday (October 12)
