TESCO in Tenbury says that it is committed to giving a chance to local suppliers.

Following the opening of the new store on the former Auction Yard site, the supermarket chain staged a special supplier event.

As part of the opening celebrations, five local suppliers from the surrounding area were on hand to share free samples of their products with customers.

The suppliers included West Midlands Brewery, Saddlers, who have been brewing ales and craft beers for more than 100 years.

This is a family business based in Stourbridge, using their experience to craft their beer with care, and offered customers three varieties to try including the ‘Worcester Sorcerer'.

Purity Soft drinks, based in the West Midlands, produce drinks packed with fruit, providing one of your five-a-day in every bottle.

Sausage samples were produced by Gills sausages, a family business founded in Wolverhampton. Their sausages are made with tried and tested recipes, using their own fresh pork.

Just Oil, a fourth generation family business, has successfully created an oil which is grown, harvested, cold pressed, filtered and bottled on their farm in Staffordshire.

May’s eggs have been producing free-range eggs for over 13 years. The eggs, which have received the British Lion Code, are produced and packed on their family farm in nearby Ledbury.

These products and many other locally sourced items will be available on the shelves of the new Tesco store for customers to buy.

“We know our customers love to buy food that is produced and grown locally, and we are proud to work with and support local suppliers,” said local buying manager Chris Minter.

The new 15,000 sq.ft store has created 130 jobs for the local area.
