TO help combat the leading causes of blindness and assist in preserving vision, the Redditch Lions Club will be in Redditch.

As part of Lions World Sight Day, on Thursday, October 12, the group will be in Milward Square in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, from 10am to 4pm.

The aim is to heighten awareness and education about sight preservation and preventable blindness.

“It is estimated that 40 million people around the world are blind,” said Brian Rich, from Redditch Lions Club.

“On Lions World Sight Day, Redditch Lions are working in unison with clubs around the world to educate millions of people on the importance of proper eye health care.

"Nine out of 10 of the world’s visually impaired people live in developing countries. Lions clubs in the British Isles and Ireland donate on average £65,000 a year to Lions Sight Savers, a registered charity set up in partnership with Sightsavers.

"This charity is run by volunteer lions, so all donations fund projects supported by Sightsavers in East Africa and the Indian sub-continent."
