A REDDITCH firm has been named and shamed for failing to pay the minimum wage.

His & Hers Hair Salon on Evesham Street was one of 233 employers who were caught cheating the lowest paid workers out of minimum wage.

Helen Lee trading as His & Hers Hair Salon failed to pay £1,008.60 to two workers.

As well as being named and shamed the government has fined the salon for illegally under-paying workers.

Hairdressing was among the worst offenders, according to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Government investigators found nationally that employers had been deducting money from pay packets to pay for uniforms, failing to account for overtime hours, and wrongly paying apprentice rates to workers.

Helen Lee from the salon refused to comment.

Business Minister Margot James said that by naming and shaming it sends the clear message that the government will come down hard on those who break the law.

“It is against the law to pay workers less than legal minimum wage rates, short-changing ordinary working people and undercutting honest employers," she said.

Melissa Tatton, Director at HM Revenue and Customs said: “HMRC is committed to getting money back into the pockets of underpaid workers, and continues to crack down on employers who ignore the law.

“Those not paying workers the national minimum or living wage can expect to face the consequences.”
