PLANS for a new four-bedroom home in the garden of another house in Wadborough, near Pershore, have been refused over concerns it would be too cramped.

The application was discussed at a meeting of Wychavon District Council’s planning committee on Thursday, February 5 after members voted to defer it at a meeting in December last year.

Although concerns were raised the small area the house in Mill Lane would be situated in would be too cramped and it would damage the overall aesthetic of the village, planning agent William McMorran told members he believed these concerns were unfounded.

“This house will contribute an exemplar of contemporary design to Wadborough,” he said.

Cllr Thomas Noyes agreed, saying he believed the application should be granted.

“I’m quite happy with this,” he said. “I thought it fitted in well with the village.”

But Cllr Margaret Rowley said she felt the development was “totally inappropriate”.

Cllr David Brotheridge agreed, saying: “I think this is very shoehorned in”.

Members voted to refuse the application by nine votes to four, with two abstentions.
