THE work of Britain’s armed forces will be celebrated in Victoria park next Saturday.

The Armed Forces Day Gala, organised by the town council, is set to be a day of fun for the whole family.

The gala will kick off with a parade of cadet groups and a drumhead service at 1.30pm, with the salute taken by deputy lord lieutenant Andrew Duncan and deputy mayor Cllr Jeremy Thomas, and music from Malvern Hills District Brass Band.

Among the attractions during the afternoon will be St Andrew’s Pipe Band from Cheltenham, a bird-of-prey display by Raptor Experience, a field gun display by the naval cadets, and a Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Mayor Cynthia Palmer said: “Armed Forces Day is the annual national campaign that gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the armed forces past and present, including currently serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.”

From Harper’s vintage rides to inflatable assault courses, bouncy castles and helter skelters, Victoria Park will be brimming with all sorts of things to do.

Discover History will be showing visitors all about yeomanry recruitment, while Bows Blades and Battles will be reenacting a World War One surgeon’s station.

And the food and drink village will feature a tasty array of stalls, including the Speakeasy Bar, the Indian Rasoi and Becky’s Bhajis.
