THE new environment secretary, Michael Gove, is set to make his first public appearance at a popular county event.

The former education secretary is expected to attend the opening day of the Royal Three Counties Show on Friday, June 16.

An estimated 90,000 visitors will attend the weekend event, which takes place at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern.

Diana Walton, the show director, said: “We are looking forward to opening the gates on what we think is a spectacular show this year.

“We’ve got something for everyone from the heart-stopping antics of the Bolddog Lings FMX Team and the Red Devil’s aerial acrobatics to Britain’s best loved farmer, Adam Henson, Sporting Heroes and Champion Livestock in the famous Grand Parade.

“The weather forecast is fantastic so we’re readying the sun cream and can’t wait to welcome visitors to come celebrate the great British countryside.”

The Royal Three Counties Show is the biggest livestock and equine event in the United Kingdom.

Adam Henson, who presents the BBC’s Countryfile programme, will also be at the three-day event this year.

The highlights of this year’s show include the Wellington Boot Theatre, Ask the Farmer Theatre, the Gloucestershire Hotspot Trail, and the Royal Three Counties Show Pint and Ploughmans.

Organisers have predicted that 4,000 children will visit the show on Friday, June 16, which is more than ever before.

Over 400 brownies, rainbows and girl guides are due to visit the showground in a bid to earn a unique badge.

There will also be a Meet the Countryside and Discover Sheep area, where people can quiz experts on countryside villages and wool.

History enthusiasts can also visit a medieval camp at the showground, which will host battle re-enactments and living history.

Tickets at the gate will cost £23 for adults and £7 for children under 16, although kids younger than five will get free entry.
