COMMUNITY groups in Bewdley will be given welcome support through a council grants scheme.

Bewdley Town Council has agreed to grant up to £12,500 to organisations that provide vital services and activities to the residents in the town.

Recipients of the funding include Friends of Riverside North Park, Wribbenhall Parish Room which will enable them to purchase a defibrillator, Riverside Dementia Café and Bewdley Carnival.

The Town Council’s Policy and Resources Committee allocated the grants following a record number of applications for help.

Councillor John Beeson, Chairman of the Committee, said: “We are delighted to be able to support these community groups and organisations with their work which is so important to the people of Bewdley.

“We have a limited funding budget but we hope that the grants will help with projects that will add real value to the life of our town, and further encourage Bewdley’s resilience and community spirit.”

Bewdley based Wyre Forest Community Transport received £900 from the Town Council to support its operations.

Beverley Coldrick from Community Transport, on hearing that the application had been successful, said: “This is fabulous news.

“We are really pleased that the Town Council are supporting the scheme which I feel is invaluable to the area.”

Nick Farress, the Town Clerk, added: “The Town Council allocate funds each year and invites organisations to apply. We also have our smaller grants fund which is open all year round that can help with publicity of up to £100”.
