A KIDDERMINSTER pub is toasting yet more success after winning another coveted Campaign for Real Ale award.

Weavers Real Ale House on Comberton Hill has been handed the Wyre Forest CAMRA 2018 Pub of the Year Gold award – having scooped the honour last year.

Last year’s success saw them go on to become Worcestershire Pub of the Year and get shortlisted as one of four finalists for the national honour.

Owner Dean Cartwright said: “We are striving to better ourselves to get the national top dog position in the near future. Thanks to everyone that uses the Weavers on the Hill.”

Wyre Forest 2018 Pub of the Year Silver was awarded to Maria and Andy Gooding, landlords of Stourport’s canal-side Black Star, while Bronze went to Pete Green, long-time keeper of The Anchor in Caunsall.

This year, CAMRA members were also asked to vote for a new category of Cider Pub of the Year. The inaugural winners was Weavers at Park Lane which is run by Jeff and Lisa Ide with duty manager Joe Walters.

Mr Ide said: “We would like to thank everybody for supporting us and appreciate being recognised for our great selection of ciders.

“Our ciders have quickly become very popular in Kidderminster, especially our Rhango cider which is brewed exclusively for us.

“We are very much looking forward to the summer in our beer garden with live music and a pint of cider in hand.”

And Nick Yarwood, Chairman of Wyre Forest CAMRA, added: “Competition for this award is very intense and it’s great to see the Weavers on Comberton Hill being recognised again by local CAMRA members.

“Congratulations to them, to the Black Star and the Anchor for being outstanding pubs in the area.

“Lively pubs serving their communities are part of the colourful fabric of social life and long may they thrive”.
