A DEDICATED daughter is set to scale three mountains in 24 hours to raise money for the hospice which cared for her dad.

Kirsty Griffin, from Harvington near Evesham, is preparing for the Three Peaks Challenge which will see her climb the three highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice.

The 43-year-old will begin the mammoth challenge – along with a team of six others – at Ben Nevis in Scotland early on Saturday June 24 before climbing Scafell Pike in the Lake District and finishing the next day at Snowdon in Wales.

Ms Griffin decided to take on the challenge in memory of her dad Brian Griffin who died in January 2008 after being diagnosed with secondary liver cancer.

Mr Griffin, a former chief engineer in the motor industry, was supported by the hospice in his own home in Bidford-on-Avon.

Ms Griffin, who is a keen walker, said: “He was very much a family man with a large circle of friends. Dad never once said ‘why me?’ or moaned – he was brave. His only worry was ensuring we were OK.

“Our lives as a family changed forever in such a short space of time. St Richard’s Hospice was there supporting not only Dad but us all as a family.

“Within 24 hours of diagnosis St Richard’s ensured we had the chance to talk, installed aids within the home and helped mum fill out forms for the financial support she was entitled to.

“Our St Richard’s Nurse Specialist even came a few weeks after to help us all understand the questions we had once dad had passed away. We will be forever grateful for that guidance through a difficult time.”

Ms Griffin is hoping to raise around £300 to support the vital care provided by St Richard’s to patients living with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

She has completed a number of previous fundraising events for St Richard’s, including taking on the 31-mile Worcestershire Way Walk three times.

Supporting the hospice is a family affair, with Ms Griffin’s mum heavily involved in fundraising in Evesham while her brother and sister have completed sponsored runs.

Ms Griffin added: “It's always been an ambition of mine to do the Three Peaks challenge. I'm really looking forward to it but I'm not so sure my feet will thank me for it!”
