DOGS Trust Evesham staff are celebrating after finding foster homes for 250 pooches.

The Home From Home foster scheme, which was launched at the Evesham rehoming centre three years ago, focuses on finding foster homes for dogs that are cared for by the trust but would prefer to be at a home.

Dogs who benefit from the scheme can be young puppies, elderly dogs, dogs recovering from surgery or dogs whose owners have sadly passed away.

Sarah Fortey, Home from Home co-ordinator at Dogs Trust Evesham, said: "Our foster scheme means some of our dogs who have found themselves homeless can continue to enjoy everything life as part of a loving family has to offer, whilst they wait for their forever home.

"For anyone who is a dog lover but dog-less and who wants a four-legged friend in their life but can’t commit to having a dog long term, fostering could be the ideal solution.

"Dogs Trust covers all fees and foster carers can go on to adopt their foster dog permanently if they wish, which does often happen as they fall in love with them.

"It is really rewarding and is a fantastic way to help us do as much as we possibly can for dogs in the region that have found themselves without a home."

Doggy double act, Cocker Spaniels Lexi and Sally, took the accolades of the 249th and 250th dogs to find homes through the scheme.

An appeal to find a home for the duo back in May was published and they won the heart of new owners Richard Kirkby and David Bates from Pershore.

Mr Kirkby said: "Lexi and Sally have settled in fabulously and we are so lucky to have them as part of the family.”
