RESIDENTS in White Ladies Aston, near Worcester, were tickled pink on Saturday, when the village was invaded by more than 200 flamingos.

The flock arrived overnight and perched on verges, outside the church, the parish room and The Old Vicarage, where the village fete is to be held on Saturday, June 24.

Archers actor Trevor Harrison, who will opening the fete, said: "I don't think this has ever happened in Ambridge."

An event spokesman added: "They certainly brought some colour to the village and quickly became a talking point.

"Although White Ladies Aston is only a small village, it thinks big. The fete is an annual highlight and raises much needed money for the upkeep of the village church. It's all hands on deck and is a great community event which attracts folk from a wide area.

"Needless to say, there will be a lot of flamingos on sale this year."

The strange spectacle, dubbed Flamingo Bombing, is believed to have originated in America and sees a person plant several pink plastic flamingos in a garden to see their neighbour's reaction.

The birds, which were donated to the fete, can be bought for £4 a pair. The event starts at 2pm.
