A MAN has died after being hit by a train in Worcestershire.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Alvechurch Train Station at 12.38pm today.

Paramedics confirmed the man dead at the scene and police are not treating the incident as suspicious.

A British Transport Police spokesman added: "We have been called to the tracks close to Alvechurch station in the West Midlands, after reports a person was struck by a train. The call came in at 12.38pm today (21/03).

"Officers are on scene alongside paramedics, however a person has sadly been pronounced dead. Work is now underway to identify the person and inform their family.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

One ambulance, a paramedic officer, the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team and the West Midlands Care Team were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered a man in cardiac arrest.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

All rail services are currently suspended between Longbridge and Redditch. Tickets are being accepted on the Metro and NX WM buses.

Trains to Redditch will terminate at Barnt Green. Passengers for Alvechurch and Redditch are advised to change at Longbridge for a replacement bus service.
