HIGHWAYS teams have been praised for working around the clock to keep drivers moving during the bad weather.

All of Worcestershire's gritters - 28 in total - were out each evening this week, clearing ice from the county's roads and footpaths in the aftermath of the heavy snow.

Cllr Alan Amos, county council cabinet member for Highways, said: "Our teams have been fantastic.

"They've had to get out there and work in some pretty treacherous weather conditions to make sure the rest of us can travel on the roads and stay as safe as possible.

"They are doing a great job and long may it continue.

"People who live and work in Worcestershire can be really proud of our teams who have kept people moving and that can't be said of other areas of the country."

The staff worked a total of 2,376 hours over the snow weekend and used 3,000 tonnes of salt in the days following.
