SPORTING heroes from Special Olympics Redditch have been honoured at the town hall after winning a haul of medals at Great Britain’s National Summer Games.

The squad won 16 medals from the games, the country’s largest multi-sports event for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

It was held in Sheffield and saw around 2,600 athletes of all ages and abilities come together from across the country.

As a way of congratulations the successful squad were recently invited to the town hall by Redditch councillor and council leader Bill Hartnett.

"They did a magnificent job, and brought back a haul of medals gold, silver and bronze with each member of the squad winning at least one medal," he said.

"I contacted Ron and Elaine Daykin to congratulate all connected with Special Olympics and said I am sure all in the borough are proud of them."
