'LOTTO' gran Susanne Hinte has died at her home, it has been confirmed.

It is understood that she passed away from a cardiac arrest at her home in Borrowdale Drive, Worcester, yesterday, at the age of 49.

Ms Hinte's daughter, Natasha Douglas, confirmed her mother's death but said she was too upset to make any further comment at the moment.

Ms Hinte first hit the headlines after claiming she placed a jackpot lottery ticket in the wash, obliterating the date and barcode.

At the time a £33 million jackpot was unclaimed with Camelot saying the winners had bought their ticket in Worcester.

She shot to fame nationally following the claim, as the story of who had won the jackpot gripped the nation.

Eventually, the real winner came forward to claim the prize and Ms Hinte came to regret being in the spotlight, saying she had never wanted to be famous.

Ms Douglas said the family did not know what had happened to Susanne, who was known as Sanne, and was a mother and grandmother.

She added that she had been in touch with the coroner and that a post-mortem examination would be carried out.

According to Ms Hinte’s estranged husband Nick Scott, it was the couple’s 19-year-old son Brandon who found the body.

Mr Scott, a father-of-five, of Malvern, said: "I had a phone call from my son.

"He put the phone down on me. I went over to Worcester last night – I saw two police cars outside.

"What it was, was Brandon was coming home from work in Droitwich, she was supposed to pick him up.

"He went to the house in Borrowdale Drive to see what had happened. The car was there.

"The last time anybody had spoken to her was noon on Sunday. Tash had a look on her Facebook – she was online at midnight. She could have been there all night."

He added: "It’s all about Brandon now."

Paying tribute to Ms Hinte, he said: "I was with her 12 years, she was good as gold. She was the girl about town. She worked behind the bar when I met her.

"She was originally from Germany. She was tall, slim with blonde hair. We had a lot of good years."

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said he believes the daughter raised the alarm after her mother didn’t answer the door.

"It is sad," he said.

"It was about six o’clock last night.

"The ambulance came quite quickly about three or four minutes. They were only in there 90 seconds.

"I thought it can’t have just happened - she must have been gone."

In a statement, West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We can confirm that West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of a woman in cardiac arrest at a property in Borrowdale Drive, Worcester, at 5.35pm yesterday (Monday).

"An ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

"Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent on arrival at the scene that nothing could be done to save the patient and she was confirmed deceased."

A statement from West Mercia Police added: "Police were called by the ambulance service to an address on Borrowdale Drive, Worcester at 5.40pm yesterday (Monday, 14 August).

"A woman, aged 49, was declared dead at the scene. Her death is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the coroner.

"Next of kin are aware."
