STROKE survivors joined Stroke Association staff at Bromsgrove's Life After Stroke Centre to celebrate the facility's 5th anniversary.

At the event on May 22, guests dressed in purple - the charity's signature colour - to celebrate the centre's achievements, which includes supporting more than 600 patients and carers.

Speeches were given by health care experts and visitors took part in activities like pottery, painting, a quiz, raffle and cake sale.

The celebration was held during 'Make May Purple' awareness month, which encourages people to raise funds for those affected by stroke.

Stuart Cooper, community development and partnerships manager at the Stroke Association, said: "Our annual awareness month Make May Purple is the perfect time to celebrate our five year anniversary and all the brilliant work that is being carried out at the Life After Stroke Centre to support those affected by this devastating condition.

“It was a brilliant atmosphere on the day, with a great turnout. The day was all about giving the local community a taste of the activities at the centre and learning about the organisation as a whole."

In the last five years, the Church Lane centre has provided learning opportunities for more than 110 students studying speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
