FAMILIES can enjoy a historic walk and a number of children's activities during an annual event.

The 42nd Cropthorne Walkabout will take place on Sunday (April 30) and Monday (May 1), giving visitors the chance to see the history of the ancient village as well as its views and gardens.

Walkabout attractions also include cafes, a bar, a flower festival and children's activities including a magic show.

There will also be live music and the chance to see the village's black and white thatched houses.

Overlooking Shakespeare’s River Avon, Cropthorne offers clear views across the vale to the Malvern Hills in the distance.

It is featured in the Domesday Book, and its church dates back to the 12th century.

The event runs from 11am until 5pm on both days, starting on Main Street in Cropthorne.

It costs £6 for adults and £1 for children.

A dog show will also take place as part of the day sponsored by De Montfort Veterinary Hospital and Hound Helpers Ltd.

The show takes place at the top of Main Street, opposite The Sheppey playing fields, with the first class taking place at 11.50am.

The show includes AG Agility from Gloucester and Laser the dancing dog from Britain's Got Talent.

Categories at the show include most handsome dog, best rescue, child's best friend, prettiest bitch, golden oldie, scruffiest mutt and judge's favourite as well as waggiest tail.

Every dog receives a medal and a goody bag, the entry to the show is £2 per category.

The event raises money for local causes including Cropthorne Church of St Michael's, Cropthorne with Charlton First School and local brownie and scout groups.
