PETROL heads flocked to Dudley to see the array of vintage vehicles that were on display over the weekend.

The town was host to two classic car shows, which drove in hundreds of enthusiasts from far and wide.

Things kicked off on Saturday with a cavalcade of 22 cars making their way down High Street before parking up in Market Place, Stone Street and Stone Street Square.

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Dave Tyler and his wife Barbara also attended and after much deliberation, decided the best in show was an E-Type Jaguar and presented the owner, Maurice Cole, with a winners cup and a bottle of champagne.

Organiser John Emms said: "Everybody had a super day. Hundreds of enthusiasts mingled with Saturday shoppers and there were lots compliments and positive comments from people.

"Without doubt this event was a success which we hope to see repeated next year with even more cars taking part."

More fun was had on Sunday as the West Midlands Classic Car Club held its annual show within the castle courtyard at Dudley Zoo.

There were around 90 vehicles on display, dating from 1928, including a Daimler Dart and Rolls Royce.

Zoo Manager, Matt Lewis, said: “The West Midlands Classic Car Club Show is an established event in Dudley Zoo’s calendar and it was another success this year.

“Hundreds of visitors turned out to see the vintage vehicles for themselves in the castle’s courtyard, before touring the rest of the zoo site and learning more about some of the rarest animals in the world.”
