STATISTICS show a reduction in incidents of fly tipping but a Ludlow councillor is not convinced.
Andy Boddington who represents Ludlow on Shropshire Council believes that incidents are not being reported.
Fly-tipping in Shropshire was down a little last year but the overall trend is no change, according to statistics from the Council. Over the last five years, reported incidents have averaged 1,400 a year, mostly on the highways and mostly domestic rubbish.
During the same period, Shropshire Council spend £500,00 taking action. There were only two prosecutions. More than 300 warning letters were issued.
“Thousands of perpetrators went unidentified or didn’t face action,” said Mr Boddington. The Keep Britain Tidy campaign has described fly-tipping as a ‘national epidemic.’
