A CONTROVERSIAL call has been made for Ludlow Town Council and Ludford Parish Council to merge.

It has come from Andy Boddington, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North.

He admits that some people will hate it but says that the move is necessary to ensure co-ordination of planning and equity when it comes to council tax charges.

“Most future development is expected to be in Ludford, not Ludlow,” Andy Boddington said.

“We need to merge Ludford and Ludlow councils to ensure that the future of our town is planned coherently.

He believes that unless this happens people living in Ludlow will effectively be subsidising services used by residents of Ludford.

“Everyone in Ludford uses Ludlow services but Ludford residents pay just £16 a year in parish precept (council tax Band D),” Andy Boddington added.

Ludlow residents pay £133. The new estate will pay the same low Ludford council tax but draw on central Ludlow services.
