VOLUNTEERS are needed to make up the numbers on Ludlow Town Council.

Despite the election at the beginning of May and contests in two wards, the town council is still three members short.

The shortfall will be made by co-option by members of the town council.

“Thanks to its excellent food festival, local organisations, creative culture and impressive historic heritage, Ludlow is a town with an enviable national and international reputation,” said the new mayor Tim Gill.

“The town council is proud to be a part of Ludlow's success.

“We make sure the core infrastructure such as public toilets support the town’s day-to-day success and are proud to run Ludlow Market and maintain town centre amenity areas."

He said that the authority also works in partnership with other groups to provide services like the new museum at The Buttercross.

“The town council is an active organisation that makes a real contribution in Ludlow and need to co-opt people who are prepared to make decisions and do real work for the benefit of the town,” Tim Gill added.

Co-option to the town council is open to all eligible residents who will consider not only their own views but the wider interests of the town.

“Other town councils across the country are often surprised to learn how small Ludlow is because it has such a huge reputation,” Tim Gill said.

“Towns in Shropshire and across the country are facing significant challenges. Ludlow Town Council does not pretend have all the answers for Ludlow. We will continue to work with organisations that offer constructive ideas and relevant skills.

“Town councillors know from experience that it takes vision, courage and dedication to be part of a decision-making organisation that often attracts the attention of arm-chair critics, but we are offering a genuine opportunity to do the right thing and take pride in your town.’’

Co-option packs are available from the website www.ludlow.gov.uk – contact town clerk, Gina Wilding for further information townclerk@ludlow.gov.uk. The deadline for return of co-option applications is Friday, June 16.
